bmaju's InnerMinmus (bIM) reimagines Kerbin’s moon system: Minmus becomes a larger inner moon, the Mun moves farther outward, and pale rings stretch across Kerbin’s sky.
Rather than adding new celestial bodies, bIM rearranges the familiar stock system, blending scientific plausibility with KSP’s playful absurdity. Minmus’ composition remains open to investigation—and the blue-cheese hypothesis still has enthusiastic supporters.
Kerbin’s rings extend approximately 1,628–1,973 km from its centre. Ring shadows work in flight, map view and the tracking station, and account for the configured Sun radius—including changes made by BetterKerbol.
Rings are enabled by default. To disable them, open:
GameData/bmaju's InnerMinmus/Settings.cfg
and change KerbinRings = True to KerbinRings = False.
When enabled, bIM replaces existing Kopernicus ring definitions on Kerbin to prevent duplicate ring systems.
RingGlow is included in bIM and activates only when a compatible, enabled MunGlow installation is present. No separate RingGlow download is required.
Cloud lighting additionally requires compatible volumetric EVE and Scatterer installations and respects MunGlow’s cloud and per-layer settings. Follow those mods’ own dependency instructions.
RingGlow currently combines reflected light from multiple ring regions into one representative cloud-lighting direction. It does not yet produce a spatially resolved glowing arc. Surface and craft illumination depend on their shaders; dedicated atmosphere and ocean lighting are not included.
Settings are available in RingGlowSettings.cfg and RingShadowsSettings.cfg inside the mod folder. RingGlow integration was checked with MunGlow 4.7.0.66 and may disable itself with incompatible versions.
Dependencies are not bundled.
EVE, Scatterer and MunGlow are optional. The core system changes and ring shadows do not require them. Scaled-space lunar eclipse rendering requires EVE’s compatible PlanetLight shader; RingGlow requires MunGlow.
ImprovedKerbol to Stock.Other mods that alter Minmus’ orbit or physical properties, Mun’s orbit, or Kerbin’s rings may conflict. Compatibility with every planet pack or optional configuration has not been verified.
Close KSP and copy the included folder into your installation:
Kerbal Space Program/GameData/bmaju's InnerMinmus
The complete package uses one mod folder and includes both ring features.
When updating, back up saves and custom settings, remove the previous InnerMinmus folder, then install the new one. Reapply custom settings to the new configuration files.
Back up existing saves before installing or updating. Changes to moon orbits, size, gravity and sphere of influence can affect vessels already operating nearby.
Minmus’ description and all 23 new science report texts are localized in:
English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese and Korean.
Korean requires a suitable Korean localization setup; it is not a standard selectable language in stock KSP 1.
