KerbalFX is a lightweight, modular FX framework for Kerbal Space Program.
Current modules:
- Rover Dust: adds wheel dust effects while driving rovers and other wheeled craft.
- Impact Puffs: adds launch/landing puffs near terrain and one-shot touchdown bursts.
- AeroFX: adds atmospheric ribbon condensation trails for suitable wings, control surfaces, and fins.
- BlastFX: adds separator and decoupler blast effects, including pyro-ring bursts and softer puffs for ordinary decouplers.
Rover Dust currently includes:
- Dynamic wheel dust emission based on movement and surface contact.
- Configurable quality and behavior through in-game difficulty settings.
- Surface-aware visual tuning for better integration with different terrain looks. (Beta)
- Light-aware rendering so dust behaves better across day/night conditions. (Alpha)
Impact Puffs currently includes:
- Volumetric engine plume-ground puffs for launch and landing.
- Configurable quality through in-game difficulty settings.
- One-shot touchdown burst for harder landings.
- Light-aware rendering. (Beta)
- Compatible approach with Waterfall in mind.
AeroFX currently includes:
- Atmospheric ribbon condensation trails for suitable wings, control surfaces, and fins.
- Configurable amount of ribbon emitters per vessel through the game's difficulty settings.
- Optional maneuver-only mode.
- Activation based on speed, atmospheric density, dynamic pressure, and maneuver load.
- Light-aware rendering. (Beta)
- Configurable visibility through module config.
BlastFX currently includes:
- Blast effects for supported separator parts.
- Softer smoke-puff bursts for ordinary decouplers.
- Size-based effect scaling for separators and decouplers.
Project status:
KerbalFX is currently in early public beta state, but is under active development and already playable.
Rover Dust and Impact Puffs should work with all planet packs, but for now stock system is prioritized for development.
