This mod is still in very early development. The primary focus is on flying a ship in IVA and moving around in EVA. As such no other scenes are supported: map mode, VAB, any kind of UI interaction, etc. Keeping that in mind, you are welcome to try it out and report any issues or feedback.

Note: this is a fork of Kerbal-VR originally created by @Vivero. This version uses Unity's native VR systems to render, which means it generally performs better but doesn't support special effects or UI out of the box. I've also added an extensive interaction system for manipulating switches, buttons, knobs, etc. in IVA.

Full VR Mission Support

The goal for this milestone is to be able to complete a full mission in career or science mode (say, a mun landing) without needing to take off the headset or touch the keyboard (except for map mode, if you need it). If you find yourself needing to remove the headset, please send feedback on the discord.

Notable Changes

  • Kerbal hands and gloves (thanks @Icecovery!). If you prefer human hands, there is a patch file in the Optional Mods folder that you can drop into GameData.
  • Part action window (PAW) support: while on EVA or in external view, hold the RightClick button on either controller. This opens the PAW for your kerbal, and activates a laser on the other hand. Aim the laser at a part you want to interact with and press the RightClick action on that controller to select it. To interact with the PAW, tap it with your fingertip.
  • Toggling the suit lamp and jetpack are now buttons in the PAW (because the RightClick button is where the suit lamp button used to be)
  • Added support for kerbal parachutes - deploy it through the PAW and then use either thumbstick to steer.
  • Added a setting to control the range of motion of the fingers. There is a patch file in the Optional Mods folder you can install to enable this. This should allow the fingers to uncurl further if you're using certain controller types that don't have capacitative touch sensors. Or you may prefer the hand to be fully open even when holding a controller.
  • When using an input mode that supports full finger tracking (e.g. ALVR), the pinch action is now activated whenever the index and thumb fingertips are close together. The pinch gesture also activates the PAW/laser system when in EVA or external view.
  • Added support for deployable parts (science, lamps, etc): Tap on the deployment icon in the PAW and then press the Jump action to place it. There is no cancel button.
  • You can now switch between kerbals on EVA by activating the grip action on their torso (just like IVA) or selecting them with the PAW and tapping "SwitchTo"

  • Pinch improvements
  • Using the grip action on EVA will no longer teleport you to the ladder
  • Hands will not be deleted when crashing the ship
  • ASET autopilot buttons (clear node, clear target, mechjeb buttons) are now functional
  • Don't automatically enter VR mode when entering a scene that supports it
  • Hands no longer stay clenched after using hatches
  • Improved throttle lever collider position
